Located in the heart of Amite City, Louisiana, Mike’s Catfish Inn is a beloved seafood and family restaurant that has been delighting diners for decades with its authentic Southern flavors and warm, inviting atmosphere. This charming establishment masterfully blends the comfort of a classic family inn with the irresistible aromas and tastes of fresh Louisiana seafood, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and travelers seeking a genuine taste of the South.
At Mike’s Catfish Inn, the cuisine focuses on hearty, soulful dishes rooted in Louisiana’s rich culinary traditions. The star of the menu is unquestionably the catfish - whether you opt for the iconic Catfish Plate, crispy Fried Catfish, or the delicately smoky Grilled Catfish with Baked Potato, you’re in for an unforgettable experience. Each bite offers a perfect balance of flaky texture and flavorful seasoning that speaks to expert preparation and fresh ingredients. For those who enjoy variety, the Stuffed Crab and Stuffed Shrimp Platter deliver rich, savory indulgence, while the Shrimp and Catfish combo provides the best of both worlds.
Mike’s also excels in offering classic Southern favorites beyond seafood. The Hamburger Steak with Baked Potato and the indulgent Ribeye with Sweet Potato Fries show the kitchen’s versatility, appealing to all palates. Complement these dishes with crispy Onion Rings, crunchy Hush Puppies, or a perfectly spiced Gumbo to round out the meal.
The appetizers here are equally enticing, from the tangy, chilled Shrimp Cocktail to the golden, crunchy Fried Pickles and the melt-in-your-mouth Cheese Sticks. Don’t miss the warm, comforting Cup of Gumbo, a bowl bursting with authentic Cajun spices that instantly soothe and satisfy.
The atmosphere at Mike’s Catfish Inn is welcoming and relaxed, characterized by a quiet, friendly vibe that’s perfect for family gatherings, casual lunches, or a leisurely dinner with friends. Regular patrons rave about the attentive service — as Sara Easley shares, “Service is above and beyond and the food is always delicious!” This sentiment echoes through many reviews, highlighting the staff’s genuine hospitality and the overall inviting environment that keeps guests coming back for over 30 years.
Despite being a popular spot — especially on Sundays — the efficient staff manages wait times gracefully, as Tammy Strickland notes how quickly tables turn over even with a full dining room. Whether you’re here to savor a classic Catfish Dinner Large or indulge in the flavorful PO’ Boy and Gumbo, the experience at Mike’s is consistently satisfying and memorable.
Guests also appreciate the bar area for those who like to pair their meal with a refreshing bottle of beer or a casual drink, with many praising the welcoming, attentive bartenders like Miss Leanne who add to the overall enjoyment.
In essence, Mike’s Catfish Inn is much more than a restaurant—it’s a cherished local institution that offers an authentic culinary journey through Louisiana’s seafood heritage in a setting that feels like home. Whether you crave perfectly fried catfish, a comforting bowl of gumbo, or a quiet meal with friends, this inn delivers with heart and soul, leaving you eager for your next visit.

The breeze outside is beginning to feel like Fall to me, and my husband and I decided on Mike’s Seafood in Amite, LA for a little Gumbo and Shrimp & Corn Bisque for lunch. Of course, the Sunday church crowd had the dining room full, and we got on the waiting list for a table. The crowd moves in and out fast, so our wait time was only about 10 minutes or so. Our waitress Jennifer, sweet as apple pie was quick to the table to get our order in and kept our drink glass full. The menu has a variety of entrees with the specialty being fried, grilled seafood that includes shrimp, catfish, oysters, soups and salads and much more. The salad bar is my favorite. The lettuce is shredded just like I like it and there are plenty of toppings to build a delicious bowl of salad. This restaurant never disappoints and has plenty of options for your taste buds. It is a local “Go To” for seafood.
Got that barbecue beef again, LOL. I'm shooting for the catfish next time. I just need them. Start frying them crispy and slice them both ways. Where's that old cook at, everything was great. My wife ate seafood. My best friend had a great seafood dinner. Also I need salad. Bar is amazing and we always get Miss Leanne to take care of us and that she does
Ask for ZOE! She was out waitress and fantastic table service! She was very friendly and helpful when it came to ordering. She also catered to the table but was not overwhelming with constant check ins. I had my daughter with me and she was talkitive to her as well as brought extra napkins to the table just Incase purposes
We stopped for lunch, the food was really good. We loved the salad bar! Such a great idea
